Women have a new way to stand up for equal rights.
The P-Mate is a disposable funnel like device designed to allow women to urinate while standing.
A new Colorado company, Go Your Way, has become the first U.S. distributor of the P-Mate, which has been sold for years in Europe.
Go Your Way began on line sales last month.
Karen Diamond, the president and sole employee of Broomfield based Go Your Way, acknowledges that the P-Mate sounds like a gag gift. She laughed when she first heard about it from a friend. But then, she said, "I just started thinking about what a great idea it is."
The P-Mate is useful, she says, for when there are no toilets around, such as when camping or hiking, or when the toilet is too dirty to sit on.
"Even the women whose jaws just drop and are mortified by the thought of it, 99 percent of those women come around and think of a time and place where, boy, they sure could have used one," Diamond said.
She's also looking at marketing the P-Mate for use in urine testing.
"Women are put into the position of having to pee into a cup and you can't see the cup and it's not a fun thing."
